Adelia Ann Ford, 74, of Cocoa, Florida, passed away on Tuesday, July 16, 2014. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, July 18, 2014, at the Wylie Baxley Funeral Home Chapel in Merritt Island, Florida. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the Wylie Baxley Funeral Home Chapel in Merritt Island, Florida. A graveside funeral service will be held on Saturday, July 26, 2014, at Salem Memorial Gardens at a time to be announced later. Adelia was born in Valley, Alabama and moved to Brevard County, Florida in 1965 from Warner Robins. Adelia worked for the Department of Defense as a contract administrator. Ms. Ford is survived by her daughter, Rhonda Ford; her son, Steve Ford; and four grandchildren; Savannah, Carli, Emilee and Kyle.

Funeral services will be held at 4:00 p.m. on Sunday, July 20, 2014, in the Chapel of Bowen-Donaldson Home for Funerals. Rev. David Grubbs will officiate with burial to follow at Leila United Methodist Church Cemetery in Colquitt County. John Moore, James Moore, Roy Pate, Albert Harden, Tyler Lopez and Erik Leon will serve as pallbearers. The family will receive friends on Sunday, July 20, 2014, from 3:00 p.m. until the hour of the service at Bowen-Donaldson Home for Funerals. Mr. Livingston was born on October 22, 1943 in Colquitt County and was the son of John Roy Livingston and Leila Elizabeth Livingston, both deceased. He was retired from Amoco Fabrics and Fibers in Bainbridge. Mr. Livingston is survived by three sons and two daughters-in-law, Sonny and Ramona Livingston of Bainbridge, Glenn Livingston of Doerun and Brian and Saundra Livingston of Hazlehurst; one daughter and son-in-law, Chasity and Rodney McNeal of Hazlehurst; nine grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Earline Judy Cornett Mitchell, 71, of Tifton, died Tuesday, July 22, 2014, at her residence. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, July 25, 2014, in the Chapel of Bowen-Donaldson Home for Funerals. Rev. Aaron Clanton will officiate with burial to follow at New River Baptist Church Cemetery. Ryan Tedders, Louie Norman, Michael Harrell, Chris Pendarvis, Deserae Estes and Hunter Eaton will serve as pallbearers. The family will receive friends on Thursday, July 24, 2014, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Bowen-Donaldson Home for Funerals. Mrs. Mitchell was born on June 15, 1943 in Tift County and was the daughter of Earl Cornett and Audrey J. Gresham Cornett, both deceased. She was also preceded in death by one daughter, Hollie Ray; one son, David Earl Beck; one great-granddaughter, Brooklynn Walsh; and one brother, Larry Cornett. She was a homemaker, mother and “Nana”, who loved crossword puzzles and cats. She was a member of Corinth Freewill Baptist Church in Brookfield. Mrs. Mitchell is survived by one son, Hollis “Buddy” Beck of Tifton, who was also her care-giver; three daughters and sons-in-law, Rita and Louie Norman of Omega, Tammy and Billy Dean of Kelltown and Carol and Eric Eaton of Tifton; one sister and brother-in-law, Billy and Perry Clegg of Cordele; 14 grandchildren and their spouses, Ladonna “Chey” Walsh, Michael “Mikey” Harrell, Michaela and Sean York, Hunter Eaton, Trina and Chris Pendarvis, Gary “Jr” and Ouida Veal, Brandon and Jessica Norman, Salita and Jason Hudson, Jessie and Tillman Lott, Jessica Wachowiak, Wendy and Lee Walker, Nikki and Joel Gandy, Andy Ray and Amanda Dean; and 18 great-grandchildren; and one great-great grandchild.

Dr. James “Russell” Lindsey, Sr. of Birmingham, Alabama, formerly of Tifton, went to be with his Lord on July 30, 2014. A graveside service for family and friends will be held at 4:00 p.m. on Sunday, August 3, 2014, at Oak Ridge Cemetery with burial to follow. Dr. Lindsey was born on December 6, 1933 in Tift County to Eulen Russell and Eula Jones Lindsey. At the University of Georgia, he met his wife-to-be, Elizabeth Ann Fort. They were married and subsequently blessed with four children: James (Tammy) Lindsey, Jr., Leigh Ann (Andrew) Blaine, Stephen (Kristin) Lindsey, and Amy (Albert) Anderson. His grandchildren are, Kristopher, Zack, Jessica, Mollie, Benjamin, and John Michael Lindsey; Ellen and Sarah Blaine; Taylor, Sterling, and Brooke Lindsey; and Russell Anderson, all who survive him. Dr. Lindsey earned a BS in Agriculture in 1953 and the Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (1957) degrees at the University of Georgia and the MS in Veterinary Pathology (1961) at Auburn University. He subsequently trained in pathology of human patients in the Department of Pathology at Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine in Baltimore, Maryland (training equivalent to the PhD). He then served for five years on the Johns Hopkins faculty as Assistant Professor, concentrating on laboratory methods for improving the health of research animals. In 1967, he joined the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) as Professor and Chair of the Department of Comparative Medicine in the Schools of Medicine and Dentistry, where he served for 34 years. Dr. Lindsey was a pioneer in improving the health and humane use of laboratory animals as research models for understanding human diseases. He authored or co-authored more than 140 scientific papers and book chapters in his field. He received many honors for his contributions: 2003 Distinguished Faculty Lecturer at UAB (the highest honor given by the UAB Medical Center); Distinguished Alumnus of the Year 2005 at the University of Georgia College of Veterinary Medicine; and the Wilford S. Bailey Distinguished Alumni Award for 2010 by the Auburn University College of Veterinary Medicine. Despite his intellectual prowess, academic achievement and successful career, he never abandoned his faith in Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior. He was convinced the intricacy of science, the splendor of creation, and harmony in the universe revealed exquisite design by the Creator. His life humbly reflected this belief. Many have been blessed, as he tirelessly served his Lord and Maker. He will be missed by all.

Alice Lucille Yawn Purvis, 96, of Tifton died Sunday, August 3, 2014, at Serenity Place in Dublin. Mrs. Purvis was born on December 12, 1917 in Cook County and was the daughter of Samuel Lev Yawn and Almeda Serena Rentz Yawn, both deceased. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Clyde Vernon Purvis, who died in 1990 and one son, Clyde Coleman Purvis. She was a homemaker. Mrs. Purvis is survived by six daughters and four sons-in-law, Faye and Vance Bennett of Middleburg, Florida, Pat and John Sims of Cleveland, Tennessee, Margaret and Richard Smith of Jacksonville, Florida, Debbie Purvis of Tifton, Kim Purvis of Milledgeville, and Rita and Jay Barfoot of Bonaire; one brother, Homer Yawn of Harrison, Arkansas; a daughter-in-law, Carol Purvis of Memphis, Tennessee; three sisters, Louise Gunn of Smyrna, Lora Jumpp of Jacksonville, Florida and Estelle Davis of Gilbert, South Carolina; ten grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; and three great-great grandchildren.

Jesse Melvin Brown, 84, of Tifton passed away peacefully on Monday, August 11, 2014, surrounded by his family. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, August 14, 2014, in the Chapel of Bowen-Donaldson Home for Funerals with Rev. Landon Alberson officiating. Mr. Brown will be laid to rest at Omega Cemetery. Troy Murphy, Jeb DeLoach, Jabie Tomlinson, Randy Tomlinson, Troy Barber and Charles Benefield will serve as pallbearers. The family will receive friends on Wednesday, August 13, 2014, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Bowen-Donaldson Home for Funerals. Mr. Brown was born on July 10, 1930 in Nichols, Florida to the late Charlie Edward Brown and Ethel Lee Pendley Brown. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his first wife, Mary Coleman Brown; a daughter, Nancy Brown; five siblings; and his second wife, Bronnie Giddens Brown. He served in the United States Army during the Korean War and is a Purple Heart recipient. He retired from the Georgia Department of Transportation. He loved camping and enjoyed putting puzzles together. Mr. Brown is survived by his sister, Imogene Gandy of Bartow, Florida; his brother, Jerry Vernon Brown of Arkansas; his children and their spouses, Mike Giddens of Tifton, Connie and Walter DeLoach of Tifton, Anita and Edwin Taylor of Savannah, Becky Giddens Brinkley of Tifton, Rita Giddens Tomlinson of Tifton and Eric Giddens of Adel; his grandchildren and their spouses, Lori and Troy Murphy of Kingsland, Bo and Angie DeLoach of Piedmont, Alabama, Jeremy Little of Tifton, Heather and Chris Grimes of Tifton, Jeb and Reba DeLoach of Tifton and Kelli and Wayne Smith of Pavo, Jabie and Ranya Tomlinson of Valdosta, Brooke and Shannon Holt of Adel, Blake Giddens of Thomaston, Erica Giddens of Adel, Hollie Tomlinson of Tifton and Jared Thaxton of Valdosta; and eight great-grandchildren.
